The word perfume originates from the Latin phrase per translating as “through and “fumus” translating¬† as “smoke”. The fashion later gave the name “parfum” because of the pleasant scents that emanated from burning incense. Perfumery – the art of making perfumes- started in ancient Egypt with the use of species, but was relined by the Romans and Arabs. Below is a lovely infographic about perfume across the ages.
