The Last Straw

We’re awash with plastic. Supermarket aisles are full of the single use plastics, as are our kitchens, cupboards and landfills. Plastic is an amazing material. It’s colourful, versatile and cheap to make.

The problem is that only around 10% of the plastic that we use actually gets recycled. Plastic straws are a part of the problem amongst the many disposable plastic items we get through every day. They can easily find their ways into our Oceans due to their lightweight. And once in the water, they can take hundreds of years to degrade. To boot they’re not easily recycled.

So with increasing awareness about the harm that single-use plastic causes to marine life and our oceans it’s time we called time on the plastic straw.

Thankfully many eco-friendly options exist. Do your bit by asking for non-plastic straws with your next burger. Or if you’re really keen do consider buying a reusable metal straw or even better going without.
