Kratom leaves come in a variety of colors depending on a variety of factors including the geographic region it was grown, when it was harvested, and how the plant was processed. This is no different than many other plants. For example, bell peppers can be found in bright greens, yellows, reds, and more.
Kratom products are traditionally named for the color of their vein and the region where it was grown. But, what are the differences between a red vein Kratom strain and a white vein Kratom strain? Or a green vein strain and a yellow vein strain? It all comes down to when the plants were harvested and where they were grown. Plants harvested early will feature white veins and offer a significantly different alkaloid profile from plants that were harvested late when the veins are red.
White Vein Kratom strains are harvested the earliest when the leaves are young and growing. This gives the leaves an alkaloid profile higher in 7-hydroxymitragynine than other varieties of Kratom. Green Vein Kratom strains are harvested after the leaves have developed but before reaching full maturity. It’s at this time that the leaves offer the most balanced alkaloid profile. Red Vein Strains of Kratom are harvested last, when the leaves are the most mature. This results in a rich alkaloid profile especially rich in Mitragynine. Lastly, Yellow Vein Kratom doesn’t come that way due to the time of harvest, but rather it gets its distinct color from a unique small batch drying process that gives it a balanced yet rich alkaloid profile.
