Medicare Plan F vs Plan N: which one is right for you?

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

For many years, Plan F has been a top seller because it covers all of Original Medicare’s deductibles and copays. However, in 2010, some new Medicare supplement plans were rolled out, and Plan N has been gaining steam. Medicare beneficiaries who enroll in a Medigap Plan N policy will have significantly lower premiums than those who enroll in Plan F.

In return, they agree to cover their own Part B deductible, excess charges and copays for doctor visits and emergency room visits. This has made Plan N particularly popular with beneficiaries who have low medical usage. They are okay with paying doctor copays because they don’t visit the doctor often and thus can enjoy lower premiums without much spending on the back end. Medicare beneficiaries who enroll in this plan are advised to always ask their providers whether they accept Medicare assignment rates. Doctors who accept assignment do not charge excess charges, and this then eliminates the potential that a beneficiary may incur them.
